Biomedical Sciences Student | University of South Florida | Aspiring Physician

I am a Biomedical Sciences student at the University of South Florida with the goal of attending medical school and becoming a physician. My academic journey is guided by a strong desire to help people, continue developing my clinical knowledge, and gain hands-on experience in healthcare environments.

Personal Statement

My long-term career goal is to attend medical school and earn my MD. I am inspired by the opportunity to help people during some of their most vulnerable moments and to contribute to patient care in a meaningful way.

Through my coursework and clinical shadowing experiences at CAMLS, I have gained a deeper understanding of how healthcare education, simulation, and patient-centered training support future medical professionals. These experiences helped me see how important preparation, communication, accuracy, and teamwork are in healthcare settings.

I would describe myself as highly detail-oriented, compassionate, and creative. I approach my academic and professional growth with careful attention to detail and a strong commitment to learning.

Education & Relevant Coursework

University of South Florida
Major: Biomedical Sciences
Career Goal: Medical School / MD Pathway

Healthcare Simulation Operations

This course introduced me to the role of simulation in healthcare education, including scenario preparation, manikin-based learning, clinical skills training, and the behind-the-scenes work required to create realistic learning environments.

Chemistry Coursework

My chemistry courses have helped me build a strong foundation in scientific reasoning, laboratory concepts, problem-solving, and the biological and chemical processes that are important for understanding medicine.

Food Safety Coursework

This coursework strengthened my understanding of public health, prevention, contamination risks, and the importance of safe practices in protecting individuals and communities.

Skills

Through my academic work and hands-on experiences, I have developed skills that are important in healthcare and simulation-based learning environments, including:

  • Teamwork and professional communication

  • Problem-solving

  • Attention to detail

  • Preparation for clinical simulation activities

  • Understanding of simulation lab operations

  • Ability to work efficiently in a clinical skills and simulation environment

  • Awareness of professional behavior in healthcare education settings

Highlights

As part of my Healthcare Simulation Operations coursework, I created a healthcare simulation scenario focused on a patient presenting with a migraine. This assignment allowed me to apply concepts from simulation design, including learning objectives, scenario planning, realism, equipment needs, and learner outcomes.

The purpose of the scenario was to support student learning in a realistic healthcare environment and help learners practice important clinical and communication skills. This project reflects my interest in healthcare education, patient care, and the use of simulation as a tool for professional development.

CAMLS Clinical Shadowing Experience

I completed three shadowing opportunities at CAMLS, where I observed and participated in activities connected to healthcare simulation and clinical skills education.

During these experiences, I attended the Virtual Patient Care Center and the Clinical Skills Education Center. I learned about the use of manikins in medical education and observed how medical students participate in simulations to practice clinical skills in a controlled learning environment.

I also assisted with preparation before simulation sessions and helped check whether manikins and simulation equipment were functioning properly. These experiences gave me a better understanding of the behind-the-scenes work required to create effective simulation-based learning experiences.

This opportunity strengthened my interest in medicine and helped me better understand the importance of preparation, organization, communication, and teamwork in healthcare education.

Certification

Inspired by my Healthcare Simulation Operations class and my growing interest in clinical preparedness, I completed the:

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) Program

This certification reflects my commitment to developing essential healthcare skills and preparing for future clinical environments.
